This is a follow up of my recently published article ‘My Stake on Rape’. Please before you cast your stones on me, get my points first.

Yes! If the Nigerian state must be rape driven, there has to be free access to sex. The African mentality has to be cleansed of so many immaturity and misconception about sex.

What are the misconceptions am talking about? Indeed, the Nigerian state and Africa at large has numerous misconceptions about sex which has resulted to rape; rape of the minor in particular. Making sex the reserve of the married has in so many ways encouraged the Inquisitive teenagers to resort to rape and masturbation a daily omen. They don’t have access to sex because they are scared of their parents, guardians or teachers.

From what I read last week on Daily Sun Newspaper, online edition, I came to realise that rape is a nation destroyer and as such needs urgent attention. I also read the story of some sex workers clamouring for business to be legal in Nigeria.

There is no gain-saying that rape would be at it’s minimum level if not automatically be eradicated if prostitution is legalized.

Even though prostitution might be an old game which is still illegal in many countries in the world. In Nigeria, the prostitution laws are vague. Sections 223, 224, and 225 of the Nigerian Criminal Code try to put pimps/madams, underage prostitution and the establishment of brothels in check. These laws mainly apply to Southern Nigeria which is regarded as the more liberal section of the country.

In the Northern part of the country, the firm grip of Sharia Law outlaws and forbids prostitution. In some Northern states like Kano prostitution still exists on shadowy, dark roads outside the state capital.
Even with the laws, prostitution is a thriving business in the most populous black nation in the world. There is no official data on the number of sex workers in Nigeria but there are other figures which tell a scary story. WHY THEN CAN’T THE BUSINESS BE LEGALIZED SINCE IT CANNOT BE SCRABBLED OUT OF THE COUNTRY?? YOUR GUESS IS AS GOOD AS MINE.
